Default New van speed limits likely

http://u.tv/newsroom/indepth.asp?id=54766&pt=n

Quote:
Tomorrow will see the start of a new programme of EU legislation which will ultimately reduce the speed levels of many UK commercial vehicles.
Speed limiters, restricting speeds to 56mph, will need to be fitted to vehicles of more than 3,500kg in weight
.
How do you like those onions lorry drivers?

Quote:
But others are affected, including larger Ford Transit vans, Iveco vans and heavier vehicles manufactured by the likes of Renault, Volkswagen and Ford.
I bet you transit van drivers are overjoyed too!

Quote:
The new rules will also mean that these speed limiter-fitted vans, as well as all other lorries on UK roads, will be banned from using the fast lane on motorways. Vehicles over 12 tonnes are already banned.
White van man will be chuffed!

Quote:
"Despite the frequent critical references to the misdemeanours of `White Van Man`, road safety statistics tell a different story, with vans having the lowest accident involvement rate of any category of vehicle in the UK.
Still, we wouldn't want the facts to get in the way of some more juicy EU legislation and expense.

Van drivers vote for UKIP!

Its not nice is it.

When you got a delivery to do at 3,4,5,6 in the morning You have to wring the neck of your van to get the job Done.

Everybody wants it delivered now.

I think if we change the road signs to KPH and leave the speedo at MPH that will solve the problem....

My van only does 95 kph anyway!!! ops:

The worry of this and the banning of LGVs from being in an overtaking lane will mean more bunch ups and it will be impossible enter the motorway.

It is common for a vehicle to move INTO phpbb_the 1st overtaking lane when seeing a vehicle about to enter the carriageway. If your van is not going as fast as the other traffic you will not want to risk causing an accident thus forcing the vehicle entering to either stop or go onto the hard shoulder.

With LGVs they will not be able to move over anyway and a line of say, 5 or 6 LGVs one behind the other is an impenetrable wall. Someone in a car attempting to enter the space between 2 LGVs would be either very brave or very foolish.

I predict a lot of problems, some rather dangerous.
