Default EU grapples with translation boom

It also says the costs are not extravagant.

The cost of all translation and interpretation in EU institutions amounted to just over US$2.50 per citizen last year. That is about as much as a cup of coffee, the Commission likes to point out. The cost is expected to rise by a further US$0.75 per citizen as more people are recruited.
Not extravagant that every man woman and child will be paying 3.25 EACH, every year just to translate stuff. That is one big chunk of cash overall.

I wonder why they are not so keen to have a common langauge, say English.

Stupid question!

Wie viele übersetzungen von Abfall braucht man! All these type of figures are bogus as we have seen recently when the true cost of our ghastly Royal family was revealed. It all depends which translations end up on the 'translation' budget.
