Default Switzerland Isn't Ready to Join EU, Calmy-Rey Says

And they never will be, because they are reaping the befefits of staying out!

Quote:
Dec. 10 (Bloomberg) -- Switzerland isn't ready for talks on joining the European Union and plans to seek new treaties with the 25-member bloc to increase access to European markets, Foreign Minister Micheline Calmy-Rey said in an interview.
Thats the way to do it. Cherry pick the free trade and leave the rest of the cack well alone!

Quote:
Calmy-Rey, 59, who became foreign minister when she was elected to the cabinet two years ago, said EU membership remains a strategic objective for the government. Switzerland applied for membership in 1992 and froze the demand that same year after losing the vote on joining the EEA.
Just like here though the scum government try to force it on their people. The people don't take it, and neither will the British soon!

Quote:
The number of people favoring EU membership has fallen in polls after rising as high as 57 percent before the government signed the first set of treaties with the EU in 1999. In the latest referendum on the issue, a three-quarters majority voted against opening membership talks in March 2001.

A gain in support for the anti-immigration People's Party in last year's general elections made it more difficult for the government to strengthen ties with the EU. With almost a third of the vote, the party became Switzerland's largest, partly on pledges to defend the country's sovereignty.
They must really be regretting the decsision no tto join.
