The European Commission reiterated its refusal Thursday to cap the European Union's 2007-2013 budget at one percent of gross domestic product (GDP) and said it would press for approval in the first half of 2005.

"More Europe with less money is not possible."
Are you receiving this Britian, more Europe, with less money is not possible. Stand and deliver!

Quote:
Six net contributors to the EU budget -- Austria, Britain, France, Germany, Netherlands and Sweden -- called at the end of 2003 for the budget to absorb no more than one percent of EU GDP.
But Barroso said in his statement that "the political project on which the (budget) proposals are based is fundamentally sound and reflects a very broad consensus" among the EU commissioners.
Yeah a broad consensus of," look Britains got a wedge of cash hanging out of her pocket, quick nick it!"

19 out of 25 Commissioners is indeed a broad consensus. Welcome to the European Union, Britain!

"It is not credible to believe that enlargement is possible without increases in cohesion spending" to spur development in defavorised areas of the new member states.
"defavorised" is an unusual word. "cohesion spending" is another phrase that I am unfamiliar with.
