Referring to pressure for France to respect deficit rules in the Stability and Growth Pact, Almunia was confirming comments by an EU source in Brussels on Friday.

The EU is a farce. Big countries like France and Germany get to ignore any of the rules that they can't be bothered with. Would this same understanding be extended to any other country? I doubt it.

Once again, what is the point of all these rules and procedures when they can be ignored by the big boys. Time to make a sharp exit!
