Default European Union to Expand Military Plans

http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald...0228235.htm?1c
Quote:
BRUSSELS, Belgium - The European Union is expanding plans to set up several elite battle groups for rapid deployment to international trouble spots.

The original plan was to have nine such groups of 1,500 troops ready by 2007, but EU military officials said an enthusiastic response from nations wanting to contribute forces meant that at least 12 would now be set up. Of that, four - led by France, Britain, Italy and Spain - should be in place next year.

Ministers are to firm up their contributions to the forces at a meeting at talks in Brussels on Monday.

What makes me angry about all of these moves is that they are being done without the slightest democratic endorsement. Unbelievable, a total nightmare

Despite concerns within the military about overstretch, ministers will announce this week that at least one battle group will be ready by January.

They will also say the force will expand by 2007 to comprise a multinational force of up to 12 elite rapid-reaction battle groups — each with 1,500 soldiers. At least two of these groups will be ready to deploy at 15 days’ notice to humanitarian or peacekeeping emergencies, primarily in Africa.

Soldiers from the Parachute Regiment and the Royal Marines have been earmarked for the new force.

The force — which would comprise the rapid-reaction units in an EU army that supporters want to expand to 60,000 — is already prompting some concerns that it could duplicate the role of Nato.
Of course, 60,000 troops doesn't constitute an army, it is a rapid reaction force, silly!

Code:
London, England, Nov. 21 (UPI) -- Britain has announced it will contribute more than 2,000 soldiers to an 18,000-strong European Union army to be deployed as a peacekeeping force.
So much for the EU not having an army. We now have the situation where young men who signed up to fight for and protect this country, could be asked to fight for the EU instead.

This is totaly out of order. What is the legal postition for any soldier who refused to report to this sham army? We have not yet fully give our nation away, so I can't see how this "army" can be legal.

UKIP spokesman (wow we have one!!!) has now commented on this.

http://www.wpherald.com/storyview.ph...2-022207-5913r

Quote:
A UKIP spokesman told United Press International Monday that the European Defense Force was "fantasy politics."

Rejecting Hoon's earlier remarks, he said: "However you dress it up, it's the cornerstone of a European army, or certainly the foundations.

"We know from past experience that as soon as the British government and the European Council get together and say something isn't going to happen, you know that's exactly what they're going to do," he concluded.
Aint that the truth! They even had it in their wretched "con the public" document, that there was not going to be an EU army. Here is a quote from the crummy pile of lies that they tried to feed the public

Quote:
The document says there are "many false alarms and misconceptions" about the new EU blueprint, insisting that Britain would not be forced to join the euro or a non-existent EU army
Blatant, blatant lies. Just like the rest of the document.

I believe that any reference to a UKIP spokesman is usually Nigel Farage or Mark Croucher.
