Default EU to lift weapons ban on China

http://news.xinhuanet.com/english/20...nt_2186997.htm

Quote:
Wu Jianmin says it's only a matter of time before the EU rescinds the ban, which will be in the interests of both China and Europe.

During his recent visit to China French President, Jacques Chirac, said the ban on the export of weapons to China was pointless and many European countries favored lifting it. Enditem
China is now considered an Human rights advocate, and all-round good egg now then. Good to see profit isn't the only thing that matters in this world. Oh sorry it is!

I wonder how the USA will react to this. There may be trouble ahead!

Talking about the EU's Galileo alternative to US GPS systems.

Quote:
As Richard North argues in an excellent Bruges Group paper, America's problem is not so much that Galileo will give a huge boost to the emerging EU military capability: Europe is now far too weak ever to risk a direct confrontation with the US.

The real source of tension is that Galileo will be made available to China and Russia and, in the future, any other country the EU chooses to befriend. In an amazingly reckless move, Brussels has already handed China a 20% stake in Galileo, and Chinese officials will be working in Brussels on the project.
Now is it just me, or am I seeing more and more seeds for future conflict here.

Quote:
There is little that can be done to stop this new arms race. Galileo will proceed as planned, as will China's involvement, and the US will gradually develop a new space arsenal. The biggest scandal of all, however, is the complete absence of any public debate on such an important issue - especially in the UK, which is a full member of Galileo. Does the British government know what it is doing?
Is the pope Jewish

Personaly I am happy for countries other than the US (doesn't have to be European), to want to develop an alternate GPS system. It's always good to have an alternative system and I'm not particularly comfortable that the US does have all the cards in it's hand at the moment.

How do we stop this whole polarising the world INTO phpbb_power blocks though. Already there is posturing, and talks of arms races. There seems to be an tug of war going on over China at the moment, is this the future we want for our children?
