Indeed, as there was a lot of ado about Obama being the first African-American president of the USA there was a survey as to which factors would completely stop people voting for a particular canidate. It was found out that only 15% of the voters wouldn't vote for a candidate who was black. Being a woman or being a gay had a lot more people not voting for such candidates. Being Jewish was a big no-no but overwhelmingly the biggest obstacle for any candidate to get elected would be if the candidate was atheist.
