Default Jamaica to ditch the Queen?

I hope they do but unlikely to happen even though this article

'I think time come': Jamaica to ditch Queen as official Head of State as new PM vows to sever colonial-era links with Britain | Mail Online

makes it seem like a probability.

On the other hand, why should any sovereign country have a foreign head of state?

As long as we can ditch Jamaica, it sounds okay.

After WW2, most Jamaicans who emigrated went to the USA, it was only after they were stopped from entering the USA, that they switched to the UK.

12 years ago Australia had a referendum on whether to keep the British monarch as head of state or to become a republic. The monarchy won that referendum. Not because people over there on the other side of the world would be terribly fond of the British royals but because no-one could come up with an acceptable idea what kind of a republic should take place.

The people would have wanted a republic with a directly elected president when as the government proposed a model of a figurehead elected by the Australian parliament.

Britain did that years ago when it tore up all the agreements to buy commodities (albeit at below world prices) from captive Commonwealth producers and left them to flounder so the UK could join the Common Market.

£19m a year in aid is small recompense!

PS – it's not up to Britain to dictate who can be in or out of the Commonwealth...

Didn't the UK effectively destroy the economy of New Zealand when the UK joined the EEC? Before that the NZ exported a lot of its agricultural products to the UK but after 1973 those products were subject to heavy tariffs.
