An advert. on that page, in Argentine blue colour:
"Welcome to the Malvina House Hotel
Malvina House Hotel is situated in the heart of Stanley, capital of The Falkland Islands. Our aim is to offer every visitor a haven of peace in one of the most fantastic locations on the planet where nature is still very much in charge and to give all guests a warm and personal welcome"

All Dave has left us with as a navy is the Isle of Wight ferry so if Argentina invade the Falklands again we'll have to send that and a couple of air sea rescue helicopters because we haven't got any planes either.

Unless he can persuade Sarkozy to help out but he's upset him as well so it's not likely he will.
    This is England and .....

I disagree, don't be like that! We still have some pedalo's and at least a couple of armoured fishing boats to repel any invaders with, plus the RN is rumoured to have at least 1/2 a submarine in a naval dock yard somewhere.

All it will cost us is a signature on the bottom of a treaty.

OZ is ready to assist again, maybe 2 years or the year after. Italy and Greece sell-a the gun boat, really cheap, only driven on Sundays almost no rust.

Unfortunately the Obama administration appear to be on the Argentina side. Last time I read anything about it, they think we should share the islands.

The Falklands is a colony, is it not? Under the UN decolonisation programme only the inhabitants have the right to decide their own future.

There are exceptions, of course. Hong Kong was handed over to China because there was an agreement (lease) in place between Britain and China. No such agreement exists over the Falklands. I fail to see how Argentina has any legal right to it.

    It depends on gun-barrels.
"On 31 May 1976, a 'People's Assembly' in Dili, selected by Indonesian intelligence, unanimously endorsed an 'Act of Integration', and on 17 July, East Timor officially became the 27th province of the Republic of Indonesia. The occupation of East Timor remained a public issue in many nations, Portugal in particular, and the UN never recognised either the regime installed by the Indonesians or the subsequent annexation."

I used to think we should keep it, after some recent reading I am now not so sure, I respect strongly the British troops that fought and won back the Islands yet we are in the North Atlantic why do we want to annoy an emerging country with big natural resources in the South Atlantic when instead we could be trading with them. The old man thinks we are there to ensure we have access to Antartica rather than the oil or fish but at the end of the day I think we import enough from New Zealand to discuss having a naval base there if access to Antartica is important (no Nukes of course let's respect their stand against Nukes)

BTW re the US let's not forget them colonising Hawaii.

The reading suggests we have a lot of Islands that we seduce certain important local players and then get them to support British ownership and they turn into British dependencies and often Tax havens aka 'Money laudering centres' like the Caymans, IMO. They always vote to remain with the Brits thanks to some 's.

If we did decide to be magnanimous let it be from a position of strength rather than not being able to defend it, politically it would be sensitive but explosive if the Argies try using force.
LAWFUL REBELLION ..........It's our Constitutional right!
