The old man thinks we are there to ensure we have access to Antartica rather than the oil or fish but at the end of the day I think we import enough from New Zealand to discuss having a naval base there if access to Antartica is important (no Nukes of course let's respect their stand against Nukes)

BTW re the US let's not forget them colonising Hawaii.

The reading suggests we have a lot of Islands that we seduce certain important local players and then get them to support British ownership and they turn into British dependencies and often Tax havens aka 'Money laudering centres' like the Caymans, IMO. They always vote to remain with the Brits thanks to some 's.

If we did decide to be magnanimous let it be from a position of strength rather than not being able to defend it, politically it would be sensitive but explosive if the Argies try using force.
Perhaps we should give more attention to what is morally right, rather than to what is financially, politically and geographically expedient.

"With the creation of the BrazilianArgentine Agency for Accounting and Control of Nuclear Materials in 1991, the two countries turned their nuclear competition into cooperation through mutual confidence.[2] A high volume of trade and migration between Argentina and Brazil has generated closer ties, especially after the implementation of Mercosur in 1991.[3] Today, the strategic relationship between Argentina and Brazil is considered to be "at the highest point in history".[4] Argentine foreign policy has given special emphasis in "deepening the strategic alliance with Brazil in all its aspects".[5] Likewise, Argentina has been "an absolute priority" for Brazilian foreign policy.[6]"

Out of interest what currency does Mercosur trade in? Do they avoid the US$?
I ask as China & Russia cross border trade is moving away from $ so it might suggest there is a currency war on-going to attack the West?

This is a bit more than a currency war, this is the end of the dollar having reserve status. China have been getting ripped off for years. They know how the dollar scam work's now it's just they can't dump the billions of dollar reserves they hold with out them becoming worthless. So china are now in the process of slowly selling off the dollar for real assets such as gold and investing in industry around the world.

That's their problem, they want out of Dollars, but they're sitting on so much of them they can't just dump them. Also they (apparently) told the US to get their aircraft carrier out of the Gulf (USS John C Stennis).

What's even more interesting is a little known scandal known as chinagate. This is some thing I'm looking into but it's hard to find information on. It looks like China were funding the Clinton election campaign in return for both American nuclear warhead technology and information about America's missile defence program.

At the time these allegation were being made the Monica Lewinsky scandal miraculously broke out and the story miraculously got forgotten all about. I'll leave you to investigate further if you so wish.

It's the biggest hotel in Stanley, I believe. According to its website Malvina House is named after a girl called Malvina who lived there in Victorian times when the house was a private residence. It's just a coincidence that the name is similar to "Malvinas", the Argentine name for the Falkland Islands. So presumably the colour of the advert is a coincidence too.

    Interesting. Gaelic: Malvinas "smooth brow".
    mala
pl. malaichean (mailghean in Arg., cf. duilich, duilghe), eyebrow, Irish mala, Old Irish mala, g. malach, Middle Breton malvenn, eyelash.
    -----------------
Brittany and St Malo is the origin of the French 'Maloiunes", Spanish Malvinas.
wiki_"Saint Malo (also known as Maclou or Mac'h Low, in Latin, as Maclovius or Machutus, and in Italian as Macuto) was the mid-6th century founder of Saint-Malo in Brittany, France. He is one of the seven founder saints of Brittany.

Details of Malo's career are preserved in three medieval 'Lives' which seem to include incidents associated with several different people of similar names. Despite this confusion, it appears that Malo was born about the year 520, probably in Wales.

His name may derive from the Old Breton mac'h (warrant) and luh (light).
It was traditionally from Llancarfan Abbey that Saint Brendan and his disciple, Malo, with numerous companions set forth for the discovery of the "Island of the Blest". It was supposedly on the occasion of his second voyage that he evangelized the Orkney Islands and the northern isles of Scotland."
