He still opposed it and it was despicable.

It really was a bad episode in European history.

Only a very few states - eg Prussia - essayed a policy of enhanced religious toleration, but like most other states Prussia was an absolute monarchy, so this did not imply the granting of extensive political rights.

Imperialism in its classic European form was the product of a particular age. Little point in getting worked up about it now, especially as most non-European ethnic groups - including African tribes have behaved in just the same way, often with much greater cruelty.

Modern Imperialism takes a slightly different form, although something akin to the 'White Man's Burden' argument is routinely trotted out, often by people who claim to be non-racist liberals.

We saw it in Iraq where a murderous war of domination was waged by the self-styled liberal humanitarian Blair. Now that we are faced with the danger of a Tory government the Neo-imperialsts such as Osborne and Gove have to be carefully watched and, where possible, undermined.

Fortunately, Cameron seems to be aware that Neo-imperialism is bad for business.
Well it is the neocons who are behind most of the imperialism.

Agreed.

It's a vile ideology which needs to be wiped off the political map.

We should identify the chief suspects. starting with the two scumbags I mentioned.

I certainly think the Tories are at least as bad as labour, probably worse. They are our Republican party and would almost certainly have gone into Iraq as well.

They are worse. At least there are still a few genuine friends of peace in the Labour Party.

A vote for the Tories is a vote for Bush and his gang of fascists.
