Yes, you're all right, I too would kowtow and grovel to every customer especially at the coo-op where 7am to 11pm is the order of the day, even more so on the basic minimum wage. Hartlepool, take a flat cap to present to the poor woman so that she can doff it whenever Kernow deigns to enter the emporium.

I guess there is some positive, there are intensive jobsearch places like Gateway to Work and A4E (Action 4 Employment), as well as work placements and work trials where you work for just £15 a week extra (not paid by business you are working at) in the vain hope they notice how hard you are trying to impress them and maybe just maybe they might decide out of the kindness of their hearts to give you a little job.

Go on gimme a cookie, you know you want to...

Polish guy, very helpful explains all we need to know and insists on carrying it out to the car. All with a smile and polite manner. English girl on desk where we pay, sullen, unhelpful, shoves debit card at me without saying a word. Clearly doesn't want to be there. Hands over reciept whilst looking and talking to her mate.

On the few occasions I feel the need for fast food when a Pole hands me my burger at the drive through I don't feel like a grumpy old man who has to say 'thank you' very loudly as the English bint virtually throws the food at me and slams the window shut. Always a polite service from the Polish server.

****. I am turning into Victor Meldrew !
Surprising bit of information, not every British worker is like that.
But I guess you prefer to stereotype them all.

Yet many foreign drivers, increasingly from Eastern Europe, do not bother to register their cars as they must by law after six months.

And if they commit motoring crimes they cannot be traced and will rarely be pursued by police or the authorities.

Persistent foreign evaders avoid paying tax, parking tickets, speeding fines and congestion charges. Some copy or "clone" number plates from vehicles of lawabiding drivers.

The problem has become so severe that ministers have abandoned targets for tackling the dodgers.

Why should us UK citizens have to foot all the bills and pay our taxes hey!hey!

Probably to catch all the migrant workers when they are coming back home and then they can start work for Cadbury's asap and profit ahoy!!

British workers who complain that immigrants are taken their jobs value themselves too highly.

If someone else is willing to do the job for less than you, and often better, then why on Earth do you deserve the job?

Cause yor ing-lish?

It`s the reason why they can do the jobs for less that is causing anger.

What job do you do ?

No not because you are English but because you have a Family to keep, a house to pay for, council tax to pay,gas ,electric and water,Things that if you are not working the social pays for. (everyone else through their taxes)

On the other hand give the job to immigrant man who lives Ten to a flat and sends money home to his Family in Eastern Europe where his family are on benifits because he has "deserted "them.(I know this is not always the case but from my experiance quite common)

By the way they dont do the job better than us, just cheaper.

I've been lucky working in the I.T industry that there is a lot of work in London however...
My friends company has just been sold off and is re-locating to the Czech republic, they are all being laid off which is a shame.
I think it depends on what sector you work in, problem is we can't all be bankers and I.T contractors, so if we lose our other industries we will end up with rising unemployment. If cheaper labour comes in and takes the jobs we have discussed i.e. catering, building trade, drivers etc. what is the country going to do with the vast number of unemployed folks?
It makes no sense to me to continue using our current economic model really. We have people making vast sums of money on Future Index's for example, if you are familiar with how Futures work, you are essentially taking the banks money and gambling it on the rise and fall of shares without owning the shares as such, it's like betting on horses.
I think that French chap was a Futures trader for example.

What we have in this country is reverse luddism from the establishment. IE if your job is not high tech or financial, they think you shouldn`t be doing it. Never mind if the business you have is making a profit, or could be making a profit, you should change. The foreigners, you see, can do all the low tech stuff. We must do the exciting new glitzy jobs.
What worries me is our establishment haven`t cottoned on to the fact that the foreigners, yes even the Indians and Chinese, are capable of doing the new stuff.
We dont need to let whole trades, industries and jobs go just because some idiot in Whitehall thinks Britain should specialise in Finance or computer designs. The Swiss dont destroy their non banking businesses because we think they specialise in that. They do banking and confectionary, chemicals and everything else. The Danes dont just brew Carlsberg and raise pigs for bacon, they have a variety of businesses.
