Rather than blame Continental European immigrants, the author of that article should have stated the reasons for why, in this globalised economy, 100,000 young Britons have lost competitions against other people. Maybe this A GCSE in French without reading the language - Telegraph is one of the causes?

Because the foreigners undercut them.

A few determined patriots who didn't give two hoots for 'world opinion' could stick two fingers up at the so-called global economy and run this (or any other country) in the interests of the people instead of the immigrant-employing fatcats.

Personally, I'd shoot a few fatcats from time to time to encourage the others. Putin has pretty much the same idea, but he only locks them up, which is a bit wet.

I don't understand why opportunist companies like Cadburies are relocating abroad looking for cheap labour when the cheap labour is all coming here.

I doubt I would ever employ anyone again. Just too much hassle, but if I did I would take on a Polish worker.

Over the last few weeks I have had experience dealing with both Polish and English. Example : picked up sons new bike for Christmas. Polish guy, very helpful explains all we need to know and insists on carrying it out to the car. All with a smile and polite manner. English girl on desk where we pay, sullen, unhelpful, shoves debit card at me without saying a word. Clearly doesn't want to be there. Hands over reciept whilst looking and talking to her mate.

On the few occasions I feel the need for fast food when a Pole hands me my burger at the drive through I don't feel like a grumpy old man who has to say 'thank you' very loudly as the English bint virtually throws the food at me and slams the window shut. Always a polite service from the Polish server.

****. I am turning into Victor Meldrew !

Every decision made comes with an opportunity cost and every policy reform comes with social cost as well.
From the labour's establishement perspective, immigration stables wages and helps to fight inflation.
By and large Western European nations have much better welfare and stronger unions as compared to North America and Asia. The force of globalisation is real and people got to face it sooner or later. It might be better for average Britons to deal with the reality rather to assume that in the global market, stopping foreigners coming in can still keep their lives pretty comfortable with high wages and low working hours.

Of course there are other valid socio-cultural arguments against immigration.

Well, just my random 2 cents.

I know how you feel, that is why I like Americans, always polite! I get my daily paper at the local co-op, there is a woman who often serves there who is a first class ignorant cow! She's in her mid forties, looks like a "bull dyke" and although I am extremely polite to her , saying good morning to her and thanking her for giving me my change , she always either ignores me or grunts as an answer. I'd love to be brave enough to say to her, "Tell me were you born ignorant, or did you have to go to school to learn it"!

I think many of us have come across shop assistants like that.
They just don't seem to realise that the most important person is you, the customer. No customer, no business, no job.
