Alot of Polish workers send part or most of their earnings home to their families in Poland. It is assumed that little of their salaries are put into the British economy.
Migrationwatch, the admirable organisation which monitors immigration levels and which regularly criticises this shower in power for their uncontrolled immigration policies, says that the long term effects of immigration into the UK will cost this country far more money than any temporary economic benefits from the influx. |

It's worth four times as much over there. Like a minimum wage effectively of over £20 per hour.

The reason why many voters do not know this is because the Labour/Conservative/Lib Dim/Scottish and Welsh 'National' parties and some others do not want the voters to become aware of the fact that over 400 million foreigners (i.e. continental europeans) can come here if they want to and there is nothing the British Government can do to stop this as long as we are in the EU. The Labour Party, Liberal Dim party and the europhiles in the Conservative Party (and many in other parties) are more loyal to the EU than they are to immigration control. To them, any negative information about the EU must not get publicity. |

What I think could possibly happen in a few years when Germany/Austria and some others open their labour markets to east europeans is that some of the east european workers here in the UK might quit and move to those continental nations. Some of the companies/public services here in the UK using east european labour now could well find that the workers they are relying on will suddenly leave their jobs and move back to the european continent. After all, Poland is right next to Germany and some Polish workers here in the UK now could actually return to their Polish homes/families and commute every day (or just on weekdays) to work in Germany. Something that is rather more difficult for them to do while they are working in the UK. Last edited by Britannist; 28-11-2007 at 07:34 PM. |

I thought that a £ was worth 5 times that in Poland. The figure of 4x might be an average out. I think it must be worth far more in Lithuania.
This is why you sometimes find in some companies a turnover of the Eastern Bloc workforce- they come, they earn, they send it home then go back to enjoy the riches. We still send money to their governments via the EU as well. The migrant workers do not affect the workshy. They affect the workers. Let`s also ask why it is said that we need them here to do the work.Officially they could only be here from May 2005 on. What was happening before then ?Did those jobs exist ?Were they done by a British workforce and got replaced ?Or were they already done by the Eastern Bloc Migrants-who were illegal ?The jobs were being done by illegal workers ? Hardly conducive to help wages and conditions . For anyone who says "they are doing the work that British people wont do "-are you doing the work that the British people aren`t doing ? |
