A new EU proposal...
The following could have an effect upon immigration.
Why not propose this…? That all EU nationals living or working in other EU states have any social service they use paid for by their own governments. A hypothetical example could be John Bull, a Briton working in Hungary. He will pay tax where he works - a fair contribution to the infrastructure he benefits from. However, should he use their health service, or claim benefit, or receive education, each of these things will be paid for by the British Government. Should he have children, any benefits they receive would also be paid for entirely by Britain if their mother is British or non-EU; a reduction of 50% being made if their mother is of another EU nationality, the remaining sum being supplied by her government.
Of course, this policy could be extended to cover the globe; an obvious change being that a non-British mother’s country would then pay 50% of the children’s benefit costs.
I believe this a fair and rational suggestion; however, I suspect that some states may resent being obliged to fund their own people. Any thoughts?
