Just finished this book by John Lovejoy, an Anglican priest; it was very insightful, and I highly recommend it. From the back:
"English identity is neglected adn being left to crumble. Worse still, Englishness is actively discouraged and in its place we are offered the glitter of an easy one-size-fits-all Western identity." |

If only!
I don't think we are being offered the 'glitter' of a Western identity at all, which we might surmise would include a commitment to freedom, democracy and human rights. I would be fully in favour of that. However, I won't prejudge the book. It would be interesting to see if others have read it and could offer any comments. |
