The Conservative MP Nicholas Soames - regarded as a moderate - has called for immigration levels to be cut "to avoid profound changes in British society."
According to the BBC Mr. Soames "warned that there were dangerous shoals ahead unless the UK took action." The BBC reported that the Government claims it its "phasing out low-skilled immigration from countries outside europe." * Mr. Soames is thought to be pro-EU and he did not, apparently, refer in his remarks to the fact that the UK can't stop over 400 million people from 26 other EU nations coming to and staying in the UK if they want to. Source of the above quote of Mr. Soames: BBC 1 Television Ceefax, analogue page 106, 17.7.2007 at 6.07 pm. |

But like all Tories he is cynical and self-serving.
This statement is mainly for internal Tory consumption, probably to shore up the moral of the dwindiling number of demoralised activists. Could be he is positioning himself to capitalise on Cameron's possible demise. Those "profound changes" he refers to have already taken place - mostly under Conservative governments! Many parts of our cities are de facto foreign lands. And even if all immigration ceased tomorrow and every asylum seeker deported overnight, Britain would still have a population of around seven million people of non-European origin. Due to their higher birth rate and the increasing levels of miscegenation, the indigenous British population would still become a minority in their own country sometime this century. How many conservatives who proclaim themselves ‘patriots’ have had the courage to even mention this, much less propose a solution? |

Indeed. Enoch Powell said all this would happen in 1968. What was his reward from the CONServative Party for stating the bleeding obvious and being a patriot? Edward Heath sacking him from the Shadow Cabinet! Now, because of so many false promises made by the Tories to control immigration properly in the past, when they do come-out with a 'Right-wing' sounding promise on the subject hardly anyone believes them which is one of the reasons Michael Howard didn't make a great deal of progress in 2005's general election. Hence, the Conservative Party's current difficulties. If they go to the 'Right' it doesn't improve their fortunes because so many genuienly 'Right-wing' voters don't believe the conversion and if they go to the 'centre' people don't vote for them either because they would prefer the originals of Labour and Lib Dem to the Tory copy.

One of the things Powell predicted was the creation of pocket communitys of ehtnic minoritys living a lifestyle detatched from Brisitsh Culture and values.
Essesntially this helps explain the divisive nature of British Society today, everything that was good has been stripped away in the name of multi-culutralism, a concept which is completly incoherent. But Mr Soames misses a key point, it is not all about quanitiy of imigrants seeking access to this country, imortant htough that is. We have totally neglected intergration and succesive Government must take the blame for this. |

Everyone who has a pair of eyes would have to acknowledge that there is a very real and valid basis for any indigenous member of any country who found themselves facing these likely changes in their country and their culture to be alarmed and concerned on how it was going to impact on the things that they value their quality of life, their joy, their happiness, their sense of comfort and being at home with the things they know and understand. This is culture all these feelings and values. People have every right to be concerned that they feel uncomfortable with these changes and to ask the question, is this good for the country, and don't i have a say in it, after all i've lived here all my life.

Without a doubt immigration has become a talking point on the street more so than anything else. Our political leaders from all parties appear to have their heads stuck in the sand, just hoping upon hope the problem will solve itself! I can see in the not too distant future if our Government does nothing worthwhile to solve this problem, then something will happen to light the fuse and all hell will break loose!
