Scottish Councils surveying their East European residents

European Union Survey

Glasgow City Council, together with Renfrewshire Council and East Renfrewshire Council, is undertaking a study of people from the new member states in the European Union (EU) who are living and working in the greater Glasgow area.

As part of this study, the three councils have commissioned Blake Stevenson to carry out a survey with people living in these areas who have come to Scotland from any of the following EU member states:

POLAND
SLOVAKIA
CZECH REPUBLIC
HUNGARY
SLOVENIA
LATVIA
LITHUANIA
ESTONIA

The purpose of the survey is to get a sense of the number of people from these countries who are living in the areas, and also to find out about their experiences and needs living here. The results of the study will help the councils to provide better services for people coming here from the new member states.

As our way of saying thank you to you for taking the time to take participate in our survey we are offering you the opportunity to participate in a prize draw of £100 of Tesco Vouchers. If you wish to participate in the prize draw you will need to include your name and address details at the end of the survey.

Thank you for posting this, Independent UKIP. This looks like a very useful survey for local authorities, service providers and policy makers in dealing with this issue.

Whatever one thinks about the level of immigration - and I know that many here are opposed to immigration at current levels - we need to make sure that people who come here are treated properly and service providers respond appropriately.

It will be interesting to see the occupational and educational backgrounds of respondents compared to the jobs they are doing in the UK. I shall try to follow up the results of this survey.

This article disturbs me somewhat - the BNP are currently making a big push up here in Scotland and this type of ill conceived New Labour tactical
ploy preceding the local elections will surely backfire on them . Many, many Scots are becoming somewhat uncomfortable with the current influx of EU immigrants and the preferential treatment that they appear to be receiving.
