Today’s Scotsman newspaper reports that:

The Scottish Executive has blocked plans to give immigration officers in Scotland the power to arrest suspected illegal immigrants.

Immigration officials in all other parts of the United Kingdom will be given the enhanced powers, and Scottish ministers' refusal to follow suit has prompted warnings that Scotland could be more open to illegal immigration.
