Default British lorry drivers attacked in Calais.

In last weeks Commercial Motor was a report about drivers being attacked in Calais by asylum seekers who were fustrated at not being able to get to the UK.

So we have thugs over there who, unable to carry out a criminal activity (illegally enter the UK ) attack innocent people.

Compare that coverage with the unfortunate "blue on blue" happening in Iraq.

Up to the French police to deal with it, nothing to do with the UK.

And what can the UK do? It occurs on foreign soil, and as such it is up to the French to deal with it.

Modern UKIP,

By that reasoning we can leave the blue on blue incident to the Iraqi authorities.

Really I was trying to raise a point about thugs trying to get into the UK.
Or aren`t you bothered ?

No, because British military personnel come under our jurisdiction. They would only ever be detained by Iraqi personnel if they broke Iraqi law.

British civilians however, are rarely (there are few exceptions) subject to British law whilst abroad. It is up to the authorities in that Country to deal with incidents on their own soil.

Would you, for example, demand British authorities to intervene if a Brit was shot in LA? Or would you want if left in the capable hands of the LAPD?

Calais is French soil, so it's for the French to deal with.

Of course I care, but while they remain in France, it's not our problem.

Its our problem, even if we cant do anything about it. (except via the Foreign Office, who are as handy as an ashtray on a motorbike when it comes to looking after British nationals interests-unless you are a criminal )

Please tell me how a crime committed on French soil is our problem? That the lorry drivers are British is of no consequence.
