In last weeks Commercial Motor was a report about drivers being attacked in Calais by asylum seekers who were fustrated at not being able to get to the UK.
So we have thugs over there who, unable to carry out a criminal activity (illegally enter the UK ) attack innocent people. Compare that coverage with the unfortunate "blue on blue" happening in Iraq. |

Up to the French police to deal with it, nothing to do with the UK.

British civilians however, are rarely (there are few exceptions) subject to British law whilst abroad. It is up to the authorities in that Country to deal with incidents on their own soil. Would you, for example, demand British authorities to intervene if a Brit was shot in LA? Or would you want if left in the capable hands of the LAPD? Calais is French soil, so it's for the French to deal with. Quote:

Its our problem, even if we cant do anything about it. (except via the Foreign Office, who are as handy as an ashtray on a motorbike when it comes to looking after British nationals interests-unless you are a criminal )

British passport means you are given a certain amount of protection, wherever you go in the world.
