You don't have a British passport, you have an EU passport issued by the British authorities.

I am reading my passort now. Inside cover states

Her Britanic Majesty's secretary of state
Requests and requires in the
Name of Her Majesty
all those whom may it concern to allow
the bearer to pass freely without let or hinderance
and to afford the bearer such assistance
and protection as may be necessary.

That's from THE Queen, not a queen like Peter Mandelson.

My passport has managed to have Euorpean Union removed from the front of it, but the description of Euorpean Union remains inside. That is the only mention of it though, everything else states British and British Nationals.

I don't recognise the EU as an authority anyway, but as far as my passport states, I don't have to, as it offers me nothing.

In response to Robin's posts:

With this reasoning we'd be given jurisdiction across the world. Would the police go to Ibiza or Faliraki to solve cases of dozens of rape cases that happen every year there?

What about a tourist mugged in Thailand?

Or the girl from Exeter who disappeared in the Congo jungle? Will the Devon and Cornwall police be combing the rainforest floor with gloves to ascertain whether she was eaten by a crocodile or stewed in a pot with mango and guana?

Precisely.

In this case, the French.

And this is requesting the French to intervene should the bearer need assistance, which in this case invites the French police to investigate these incidents.

I did say that the main reason I brought this to your attention is that there are thugs 21 miles from Dover who are attacking innocent people because they are fustrated in their illegal efforts to get here.

They are DELIBERATELY hurting Britons, unlike the Americans in the Iraq tragedy, but have you seen this in the papers or BBC ?

These thugs want to be in YOUR country. Do you want them here ?

My passport is away for renewal, so I can't check, but although it is still a British passport, its size and colour are determined by the EU and everything is written in English and French. Surely, it should be written in English and, if anything, Welsh, Gaelic, Irish, Cornish and Yorkshire.
By the way, I like the request on the first page too, which is not present in similar form on most other countries' passports. The Canadians have the same request in English and French.
