Default Councils can't cope with EU influx says Audit Commission

The Audit Commission has said that local councils can't cope with the 'flood' of workers from the nations in eastern europe who have come to the UK since the countries the immigrants come from entered the EU in May 2004 and January 2007.

In a statement issued on 30.1.2007 the Audit Commission pointed out that "the rise in the number of eastern european immigrants from the nations which have joined the EU in recent years to the UK has resulted in overcrowding in some areas."

Since the UK Government can't stop anyone from any EU nation coming to the UK (population of the rest of the EU 410 million people ), the Audit Commission is left with only the option of suggesting that the eastern europeans are "taught English and helped to integrate."

Ominously, the Commission also recommended that their "entitlements" be explained to them when they arrive in the UK.

Source of statement from the Audit Commission: ITV 1 Teletext, analogue page 308, 0056 hours on 31.1.2007.

Britannist adds: So, local authorities can't cope with immigrants from places like Poland, Romania and Lithuania. Hardly a surprise - UKIP predicted this sort of overcrowding long before the EU 'expanded' eastwards. What is disturbing is that rather than make the wise (but very 'unpolitically correct') suggestion that the British Government do what it can to reduce the flow inwards from eastern europe (by tightening what rules it can and by advertising more than it does in the countries concerned advising people not to come to the UK) - the Audit Commission foolishly suggests the migrants be taught what their entitlements here are  .

This is all very well if the intention is to put them off - but it looks as if the Audit Commission is trying to help these people learn how to claim more of OUR money :x  .

I notice the Audit Commission claim that despite the problems the immigrants are a net economic asset to this country. I would like to see the basis for this claim.

It seems that Government and EU supporters helped work on the Audit Commission report.

MigrationWatch, the independent immigration monitoring service says - rightly - that there is no long term benefit of immigrant workers to this country in most areas of employment.

In fact, the very reverse is the case over the long term for obvious reasons - immigrants bringing in large family, claims on social services, increased usage of NHS and state education (and, among some immigrants - crime).

As we know, all these things cost the British taxpayer money.

I am convinced many immigrants take more from this country than they contribute - all factors (i.e. that immigrants supposedly all pay tax) taken into account.

For every job that an eastern european takes over here - there is a young British person left on the dole as a result (costing the people of this country - the taxpayer - money).

Default 662, 000 N.I. number issued in 2005-6

The Chairman of the Audit Commission, MIchael O' Higgins, said of the influx to the UK from eastern europe "They've brought economic benefits . Economic studies suggest a positive impact on the economy. It should be made easier for workers to speak English."

The Department of Work/Pensions said that 662, 000 foreign nationals gained new national insurance numbers for the first time in 2005-6 (almost twice as many as in 2002-3).

Foreign Nationals made up 6% of the national workforce in 2006 - up from 3.5% iin 1996. :x

From 2.4.2008 those seeking to live in the UK will have to do an English test and a UK knowledge test ot get permanant settlement rights.

Government spending on teaching English doubled in the five years up 2004-5.

East europeans account for a high proportion of those sleeping rough, street drinkers and those squatting in parts of London.

Source of above figures: ITV 1 Teletext, analogue page 316, 31.1.2007 at 2.38 pm.
