Default Thousands of Turks march against Islamic radicals, EU

http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/w...y-protest.html

Quote:
ANKARA, Turkey – Thousands of nationalist Turks marched in the capital Saturday, vowing to defend the secular regime against radical Islamic influences and urging the government not to make too many concessions in order to gain European Union membership.
Some 12,000 people from more than 100 pro-secular associations waved Turkish flags as they marched to the mausoleum of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, the founder of modern Turkey. “Turkey is secular and it will remain secular,” they chanted during a march broadcast live on television.
My kind of people.

Quote:
Turkish public support for membership in the EU has fallen below 50 percent, and many believe that perceived insults from the bloc – in the form of frequent criticism and seemingly endless demands for reform – play directly into the hands of nationalists and Islamists.
Keep falling, Turkey doesn't need the EU.

Default Armenian pushes Turkish europhile Prime Minister around

Very good to read that support for EU entry in Turkey is falling - as MKP says (last posting) they don't need the EU.

The Turkish Prime Minister who is pushing for membership of the EU was, yesterday, jostled by an Armenian man - demonstrating against the Turkish political establishment's apparent refusal to admit that 1.5 million Armenians (Christians) were murdered by Turkish forces 100 years or so ago.

How many extra Muslims and their accompanying mosques would Britain be able to take if Turkey joined the EU?
Obviously it would be good old Blighty they'd be headed for....by way of France.

Certainly it would be yet another hefty blow to Britain if Turkey joined the EU, just imagine the hordes entering this country.

I used to drive to Turkey in my TIR days. The British drivers and Turkish drivers would help each other out, repairs food, fighting the criminals, drinking together. We had quite a bond considering we were at both ends of Europe.
That though, doesn`t mean we want each side to come en masse to each others country. My worry is that not many Brits have much to do with Turkey, but as with the Poles and Portugese , attitudes will harden if some towns and trades get overun with them.

Default UK and Turkey share interests

It is actually in the strategic interest of both the UK and Turkey to be out of the EU and providing a 'balance' to the dangerous military EU Superstate presently under construction.

The UK and Turkey did far more through NATO during the 'Cold War' for the peace and freedom of europe than did non-NATO France.

As Robin suggests, the good relation between the UK and Turkey could (and would) be strained if Turkey enters the EU and we experience a gigantic influx of Turks into our overcrowded land.
