The cost of round-the-clock immigration controls work out at £104 million a year – compared to the £5.4 billion (of our money) the (Blair Labour) Government intends to spend on ID cards.
The National Audit Office said that of the average of £300 million a year spent (by the Immigration and Nationality Directorate) on tracking down illegal immigrants of which £140 million goes on finding ‘illegals’.
The enforcement budget will be up to £280 million by 2010.
