From Scotland on Sunday (10.9.2006) – news of Jack McConnell, Scotland’s First Minister, who made clear earlier in the Summer that he would back anyone but England in the World Cup Football competition  (ror reasons not connected to football europhile McConnell's Scottish Labour Party is likely to do badly in the 2007 Scottish Parliamentary Election):
Jack McConnell is negotiating a deal with immigration officials that could make Scotland the only part of the UK to welcome workers from Romania and Bulgaria when they join the EU next year :x  . The move is in sharp contrast to England, which is expected to impose tough restrictions on migrants from the two countries. Britannist writes: The obvious question is if the Romanians and Bulgarians come into Scotland - they can easily get into England, Wales and Northern Ireland. What happens if, for instance, a Romanian ends up working for a company in Scotland, but right on the border with England? Is he sent out to do plumbing work only for Scottish people and not for English people that may contact the company to use its services from their homes just inside England - maybe only half a mile away from where the company is based? Some may believe that this option may be a good idea?
Well Jack McConnell is obviously not bothered about the state of England and the ever increasing population figures. The Scottish people always deny being grumpy and not caring about anyone else. Well I wonder where people get that negative stereotype from? Jack McConnell isn't exactly doing much for his fellow British counter-parts is he ? |

Of course, they (the europhile SNP) are not telling the Scottish people the truth. England/Wales/Northern Ireland (i.e. the UK without Scotland) is going to leave the EU. Consequently, the Scottish border would become the main UK land border with the EU (the other would be the UK's Northern Irish border with the Irish Republic). To keep floods of EU migrants out of the UK (i.e. EU migrants trying to enter the UK via Scotland) there would have to be a closed border. The same applies to Northern Ireland's frontier with the EU-controlled Irish Republic. Incidentally, I believe that we will leave the UK even if Scotland remains a full part of the UK. That's if there is an EU to leave (i.e. if it doesn't fragment or break up completely before the UK gets the chance to tell the Brussels mob to get lost). |

The English people must be in charge of their own affairs. There should be an English Parliament and English Executive - just like the Scottish have. No referendum affecting the future of the UK (i.e. on the euro and/or EU) should be passed unless their is a clear majority for the referendum proposal in England (at present - if there were a low voter turnout in England a pro-EU integration proposal could be passed if there was a very high turnout in Scotland and the Scottish voted in favour of the EU).
