Default Polly Toynbee ducks the main immigration issue

The migration issue is first and foremost a question of numbers. How much more agreeable for her to duck the central issue that the UK has surrendered control of its borders, and pretend that in some way a beefed up wages inspectorate can dissolve concerns about immigration!

8) Yes! Pure numbers i agree!

fill up this green and pleasant land with more people than can be sustained and trouble will come.

hard to get a doctor, impossible to get an affordable dentist, in fact most services overstreched even though money is pumped in.

council tax income tax value added tax - forced to pay for a massive influx of people most of us don't want.

We are forced to pay for masses of people living here contributing virtually nothing, people who respect us not at all and even hate us and regard us with contempt.

It really has to stop. :x

I half saw a programme the other night about the flood of Polish workers coming in. From what I could gather the presenter concluded we need these people to do all the "unpleasant" jobs our labour force would not entertain. Qualified chemists packing fish etc. The indiginous workforce would not lower themselves.

So, you can't really blame the boss of a business employing foreigners who work for the minimum wage and get on with it. I would probably employ them.

The real problem came at the end when he told us all what the problem with our workers was. Lack of education ! Total **** ! The real problem with our workforce is that we throw free money at them at every opportunity. Why should someone lug wet fish around when if they knock a few kids out everything is given to them.

The whole situation was compounded by that idiot G Brown who in a recent speach told us all he didn't want us doing "menial" dead end jobs, but wanted us all in Hi tech industry.

The promlems of mass immigration will come home to roost shortly but the disaster of the out of control welfare state system will I think be the total ruin of our country.

And the government's committed to making it worse.

What does the government's policy of "ending child poverty" mean?

IIRC it means no household would have less than 60% of the average income. It's hugely redistributive, and will only increase further the problem that Brian highlights.

It's neo communism, which has failed time and time again throughout history, because the people in power get corrupted and human nature of wanting more all the time.

Look at the lists of "ex" commies making up the EU AND our very own government and their shoudl be some concern from anyone who doesn't believe in the communist ideal.

When people from other parts of the world with weaker currencies and taxation come here, they lower the wages. The wages are`nt low for them, with the exchange rate the wages are very high. The wages are lowered for the lowest paid.
When your wages are lowered,it`s disheartening. If there was any interest or commitment to the job,it disappears.Any other form of earning money will be preferable, including going on benefits.
If taxation is high, the reason for having a job becomes ever less evident. If the worker is not in the privilged position of passing on the increased cost of getting to work, supplying himself with whatever tools are needed, and keeping informed of the constantly changing conditions and regulations of his job, there is even less of a reason to stay in work.
After all,he`s unlikely to be zapped by a speed camera if he sits at home watching television.
