In an interview with Le Figaro on the French presidential candidates, Jean-Louis Debré, President of the National Assembly (UMP), acknowledges that in voting no to the EU Constitution, “the French rejected an abstract, pernickety, technocratic Europe which aims to regiment everything.”
Yet on immigration, he says that it is the responsibility of the EU to “see to it that immigration policy is the same in all member states.” No regimentation there then. M Sarkosy is unlikely to be pleased. |
