Reid calls for "mature debate" on migration

John Reid is already trying to skew the immigration debate when he asks for "the optimum level".We dont need any more immigration period.The debate should be how to encourage or make the illegals leave,and what to do about EU immigrants.

What we really need to establish is the "optimum level" that this country can sustain of ALL people, not just those being allowed in now.

In the 70's, the only report ever commisioned by the government suggested 30 million people tops, for a sustainable level over the long term.

Technology and further data may have increased or decreased this figure, but I would hazzard a guess that the current level is either at the absolute maximum, or beyond it.

It's time this country seriously started considering the effects of mass immigration as the population levels were leveling off and may have started falling naturaly anyway, before this no limits policy was introduced.

Oh and I am having great fun calling everyone racist today, who dares complain about the Daily Mail front page today. Funny how things change.

Lets also get one thing straight when there is talk about "Polish plumbers"and the like.

If we import all the plumbers from round the world,we may get cheap plumbing at night call outs.
To have all these workers coming to the UK means they have to be housed somewhere,even if they dont bring any of their family and live tweve to a house or caravan.
Britain is an overcrowded island and our mortgages are expensive.The influx of any more people to this island can only make housing more expensive(and thus mortgages).
We only need to call out a plumber maybe once a year,and pay a great charge.
But we have to pay our mortgages monthly.
