Default One in ten in UK born outside the country says ONS

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) said at the end of July 2006 that one in ten people in the UK were born outside the country (5,699,000 million – of which 11000 are in British prisons for crimes committed in the UK). Experts believe the real figure for the whole of the UK is even higher. Since most immigrants in the UK are in England, the number of people in England born outside the UK will be higher than the 10% estimate for the whole of the UK from ONS.

The number of foreigners in the UK is up 42% since the europhile Labour Government came in at the May 1997 General Election. Labour have let in 405, 000 foreigners in 2005 alone. The ‘one in ten’ figure does not include at least 570, 000 illegal immigrants in the UK, nor 100, 000 east europeans who have entered the UK in the first eight months of 2006. ONS were only able to look at the period up to the end of 2005 in their compilation of data for the Home Affairs Committee of the House of Commons. Experts say that unless the UK Labour Government stops Romanians and Bulgarians from coming to the UK in search of work (when the two nations enter the EU in 2007 – at least 150, 000 may come to the UK almost immediately and possibly double or triple that figure).

In July 2006 the Labour MP Frank Field said that the Labour Government should ban Bulgarians and Romanians from entering the UK until a uniform method of dealing with them had been agreed by the nations already in the EU.

Mr. Field told the Daily Mail edition of 29.7.2006 “Anyone who questioned mass immigration was accused of 'playing the race card’. This is just another way of ‘closing down’ debate. The Government will ignore the issue at its peril. The UK is suffering from the unprecedented influx of migrant workers. MPs are living on borrowed time on the issue.”

Sir Andrew Green, the Chairman of the independent immigration monitoring service, Migrationwatch, said that as a result of the huge influx more houses, schools, hospitals, roads and railways were needed. He also pointed out that there was “little evidence” that huge levels of immigration boosted the economy as the Labour Government claimed. Sir Andrew observed “Immigration satisfies demand but creates other demands. By bringing in substantial numbers of people who will work for less you are lowering wages and making it more difficult to get people from welfare to work, which is an important government policy.”

There are now over 400, 000 east europeans in the UK and some say that the actual number of over 600, 000. At least half of them are thought to be from Poland (one of eight eastern european nations which entered the EU on 1.5.2004). The Labour Government said that between 8000 and 13000 east europeans would come to the UK in the first year that the eight eastern european nations were in the EU – but over 300, 000 came in during the period May 2004 to May 2005.

In response to news that one in ten people in the UK were now born abroad, the following messages were left on the Daily Mail website on 29.7.2006:

Brian in England said “Who will save us from Mr. and Mrs. Blair? They must hate the British people for allowing the Country get in such a state. 10% of the population wasn’t born here and when you had the thousands of immigrant children who are born here the number of non native Britons is staggering.”

Jakman of Bognor Regis wrote “How the lefties must be rubbing their hands with glee.”

Theresa in Essex said “With the added influx of more immigrants coming soon our society is falling apart. Time for Blair to wake up and do something before we have more civil unrest in this country.
Freddie wrote on the Daily Mail message board (website) “Only one in ten feels like more than that.”

Kev in St. Elizabeth, Jamaica, said “Has to stop some time, unless more Britons emigrate as we did to make room. Another problem is that there is no "quality" check. When I came here the authorities needed my police record before allowing me status. In Britain any crook can get in. With the obvious consequences. In time all the crooks in the world will live in the UK ?”

M. Jones in England warned “If these policies continue, people born in Britain will end up having to leave their own country to get housing and jobs, which is appalling.

John in Farnborough demanded “This country is overcrowded. It is time to call a halt to all Immigration.”

Dom in Caernarfon in Wales said “I bet 1 in the remaining 9 are thinking of leaving.”

Barry McKay (ex-pat) in Ottawa in Canada commented “A far more interesting statistic would be how many "home grown" Britons have bailed out since Blair took over in 1997?”

Terry Molloy in Sarat, India stated “When the UK is drained of it's resources and there is no money in the kitty to pay for all the free loaders. When we (the UK) become like a third world country in 50 years or so. That's when the exodus will start. A long wait, but sorry folks it’ll be too late.”

Tim in London predicted “It will all end in tears.”
