Default NHS and schools 'at risk from surge in EU immigration'

Quote:
A HUGE rise in immigration from Eastern Europe next year could cause chaos in schools and hospitals and spark a public backlash, according to a leaked government report.
It also gives warning that ministers may be forced to abandon their refusal to grant housing and welfare benefits, creating what it describes as an extra “pull factor”, attracting further immigrants.

The arrival of hundreds of thousands from abroad is already forcing down wages for low-paid workers with “serious implications” for social discord, the report insists. A “step change” in the level of immigration when Romania and Bulgaria join the EU next year could make things worse, it says.

I heard Frank Field (Labour MP) quoted on the radio this morning on this subject, I was expecting it to be mentioned on the six O'clock news, not a word  Frank Field is a EU sceptic Labour MP, I wonder if UKIPs hierarchy have ever approached him?

Talking-up the issue of immigration is not going to help UKIP one bit, as the issue is simply not associated in the public mind with it. UKIP has tried in the past of associating the EU with this subject and it has not worked for them. As for Frank field, he is a bit old-time Labour and for him, UKIP is probably too Thatcherite in key economic areas for him to consider joining UKIP.

I really do not understand why UKIP spends so much time discussing this issue, as there is only ever one party that benefits from it, and it isn't UKIP.

Either Ceefax (BBC) or Teletext (ITV) carried a report about what Mr. Frank Field MP said about EU immigration. The report disappeared in the early hours of this morning. I've just checked and its not on either Teletext or Ceefax anymore.

Mr. Field said that the Government should stop any immigrants from Romania and/or Bulgaria from coming here until a uniform, pan-EU way of dealing with a likely influx (from the two countries into what is now the 25 member EU) had been agreed.

It's a pity more Labour MPs aren't like Frank Field - but then, expecting all Labour MPs to have a brain is, perhaps, a much.
