How can Turkey be a member of NATO, a democracy & a strong candidate for EU membership if we believe their country is so evil that people have to seek asylum?

Mind you one has to be impressed with a 17 year old lad who is so politically active when most of our lads have almost any other matter on their minds!

'cos there was a rather large country just above them and a bit to the east back in the day...

And they had the largest army in Europe at that time...

No country which causes people to seek asylum should join the EU.
However the EU wants to grow so ignores these things. If it didn't Poland wouldn't be in the EU although asylum seekers from Poland were on the whole fake - I have never heard of any persecution there.

how can persecution be proven ? any arriving here might say they do not like me back home and my family and myself are at risk.
sadly we cannot send a crack team of brilliant detectives out to Morroco or Sudan or wherever and check up.
what we can say is; if it is as bad as you reckon, then the first country outside the one persecuting you - is as good as any.
why do these people only love the white cliffs of Dover ?
we cannot have the whole world here.
sorry I am stating the obvious.

One way to prove persecution would be to not give asylum seekers UK nationality nor let them travel. I know asylum seekers who got a UK passport and went home on holiday - without anything happening to them !
