Across the country, the proportion of overseas-born residents is 7.5 per cent; but in London, one in four was born abroad and in some parts of the capital, one in two.

.
The important question is what percentage of people who have subsidised housing were born abroad. If, as we are told that these are the crem de la creme of their society none I would guess. Of course, if people come here and join the queue for council housing it would take them years to get it, so none of them.

If you believe that all immigrants are highly talented model citizens - learn Spanish !

I have not read all the posts in this thread, however i would like to communicate some of my own thoughts on immigration.

As we all know the current system is not capable of dealing with the levels of immigrants and asylum seekers trying to enter our country. Immigration officials are having to allow vast quantites of immigrants to enter our country without prevention as government directives dictate that they must. This is also because that the immigration and asylum departments are under funded, and poorly organised. Thus we must prevent all further immigration and aslym claims untill we have organised these departments.

The other factors are that the French are quite prepared to shove immigrants over to the UK because they do not want them. Why should we stand for this? We should simply send them back, as we are taking far more immigrants INTO phpbb_our nation than any other nation in the corrupt anti - British EU.

If we are to allow immigration then we should follow the Austalian and New Zealand models where we only allow migrants INTO phpbb_our country that have skills that our nation needs! Instead of allowing in Freeloaders and radical religious fanatics who contribute nothing to our once great nation.

I feel we need to halt immigration and asylum and organise ourselves then, realise that we do not actually need immigration if we pull ouselves together! For instance we should get all the freeloaders off of the benefit sytem and get them INTO phpbb_work!

I think UKIP shouldn't talk about immigration.
We should talk about immigration and housing. The two should be linked at all times because the other parties seem to believe that the housing crisis and immigration are not linked, when of course if the population goes up, you will have a shortage of housing.

Immigration is without a shadow of doubt the biggest cause of a housing crisis in England today! The rising population of ethnic minorities is turning INTO phpbb_majorities in Englands big cities causing "white flight" to the West country and other places! I'm sure Tony Blair and New Labour allow it to happen because they look on it as importing voters for New Labour!

I agree with you, sadly our publicity and I quote :-

'Britain cannot continue to accommodate immigration at its present net rate of a million newcomers every four years. However, while the official statistics are now showing a fall in asylum applications, the numbers of those permitted to enter legally has been rising sharply as a result of both the eastern expansion of the European Union (note 10) and deliberate government policy. The Labour government’s untenable excuse is that we need large numbers of immigrant workers.

Does not say that. Our manifesto said that we are against the current immigration levels, but it did not say why.

I am not against our policy - just the packaging !

I agree with the earlier comments about linking immigration to the housing shortages. However we could also link immigration to, the excess strain that is faced by, public transport, the education system and the NHS.

The problem with that is that it becomes confusing, although it is true and should be done at a detail level.
You can not really have a 'housing, transport, health, education and immigration policy'.
However you can have a 'housing and immigration policy' and should because one should rule the other or you have a housing crisis like the UK.

I would love it, if when we get accused of having a hardline or racist immigration policy. We could say 'we don't have an immigration policy racist or otherwise - we have a housing and immigration policy. Do you want 2,000 houses built near you ?'

Or the 2,800 house urban village that is about to be built adjoining my own village here in South Devon![/quote]

I think that is why we should talk about housing and immigration - never immigration on its own. If you vote for net immigration eg Labour, Lib Dem or Tory you should not complain about new housing, in fact you should welcome it. It is morally wrong to be pro net immigration and anti new homes you are being generous with young people's future and money.

I see they are also talking about water rationing again already.

When you are in short supply of something, what's the best idea?

Yes add loads more consumers! That always helps things along. And get people to wash their rubbish for recycling (as Woking does).

I'm beginning to wonder if I have gone stark raving bonkers, or it is indeed the rest of the world.
