Default Migration is bad for people

BBC - BBC Radio 4 Programmes - The Life Scientific, Robin Murray

Interesting programme on Radio Four this morning, psychiatrist Robin Murray about why some people have schizophrenia and others don't.

It seems that its far more common in migrants and their children than those who stay in their home countires. Caribeans have SIX TIMES the rate in Britain compared to those at home.

When you think about it its not surprising, it cannot be healthy to lose your sense of identity and belonging, to be in an alien land where you have no roots and will never truly belong.

    Or...

Having to endure the high volume of incessant incidious racism and Police harrassment encountered by anyone not thought to be true blue...

David Beckham and his family don't seem to struggle too much with living in a foreign country. Maybe the reason is that they don't regard themselves as being in an "alien land", just people getting on and enjoying life.

It surely has to be better than navel gazing anyway.

The key is to live in lands where the differences are not that striking & there are plenty of those to choose from. Some people like experiencing more of this world in the brief time we have to spend on it, and for that it takes more than holidays I would say. For others it is economic only.
But with a severe cultural difference, and certainly one where religious behaviors in general also clashes with the host country .. then this must be too alienating when no effort is made to assimilate, or indeed when there is no desire to try to.
    On this I agree.

It is the normal experience for any non-White person, even if only carried out by a minority.

So it is not surprising some people flip when they are often made to feel unwelcome, in an alien land, accused of having no roots, and frequently told they never truly belong or participate.

For others, it is water off a duck's back, and can actually act as a spur.
