Default 'Last bastion of Englishness' goes multicultural!

The TV detective series 'Midsomer Murders' which its producer described as 'The last bastion of Englishness' has
    'gone multicultural.'

ITV detective drama 'Midsomer Murders' is to introduce its first non-white lead
    character.

33-year-old actress Natalie Mendoza will join the cast alongside Neil Dudgeon, who replaced John Nettles as
    detective John Barnaby last year.

Hong Kong-born Mendoza will play a stables owner called Sasha Fleetwood in an episode called
‘The Dark Rider’ due to air next month.

The move comes after the show's former producer Brian True-May caused controversy last year over comments he made about Midsomer's ethnic mix.

In the Radio Times, he described the show as the 'last bastion of Englishness', and suggested that it would not
    work with more racial diversity.

He was suspended as the producer of the show, while ITV expressed shock at the comments.
The show is now produced by Jo Wright. [The Mirror/Radio Times]

There's an argument that 'Midsomer Murders' is popular with white viewers because it isn't multicultural.
It is only an argument because as far as I'm aware there has never been a survey among viewers about this.

Let's face it, there can never be a survey about it.
Who would dare to conduct such a survey?
Who would dare to admit that this is the reason why they watch it?

Another reason why it's popular is because it's pure fantasy.
Apart from the fact that the majority of characters are white English people it's pure
fantasy because of the idyllic settings, because it's set in a picturesque English village and
    picturesque rural area.

However, the fact that the majority of characters are white English people isn't any more
fantastic than what we might call 'Multiculturalism TV,' or Multiculti TV.

In Multiculti TV ethnic minorities ie. black and Asian people are invariably portrayed in a positive
light and are rarely if ever portrayed in a negative light.

What this amounts to is that TV producers and TV stations are indulging in fantasies.

'Midsomer Murders' indulges in one kind of fantasy and Multiculti TV indulges in another
    kind of fantasy.

    More rubbish PC propaganda.

I don't think the series is popular because of those reasons but because it has a feel of bygone times.

Let’s go the whole hog and have the Rovers Return pub in Coronation Street turned into a shari’a law court.
Now that wake up Britain to multiculturalism.

I'm sure there are plenty of non-white people who like to watch third rate mediocrity like Midsommer Murders as well.

I like American and Danish TV series like Sopranos and Borgen because they remind me of bygone times in Britain when we used to make classy challenging drama like I Claudius and Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.
Instead of drivel like Midsommer Murders, which even insults the intelligence of a 13 year old half wit.

Usually I wouldn't mind commenting on this, but immigration has been far the least of my concern in recent times, especially PC Propoganda. There are much more important concerns than the immigration and PC culture.

My mother watches and adore this show, so it'll be interesting to see her take.

Sack the director for not embracing diversity, the street should be wall to wall with them.
