I'd sooner see an immigrant working 80 or 100 hours a week and paying taxes to keep a Briton than see an Englishman working to keep an immigrant on benefits.
The mask slips... It's really spoonfeeding and benefits you're after. But what really pisses you off, it seems, is that unionised workforces can no longer easily hold employers to ransom when there's a ready supply of alternative workers.

Strangely, I partly agree with your second proposition: people should be able to work as hard and long as the want (appropriate health and safety permitting) and get paid for it, although only the genuinely deserving of any background should get state benefits

But is it still truly a Christian country? If it is, what makes it so – a tick box on a census form, Church attendance, adherence to the "ten commandments"...?

Despite the bleating that foreigners are taking Brits' jobs by old-guard reactionaries and their mimics, there are fundamental reasons why many (many, not all) Brits remain unemployed. A significant number suffer from the following disadvantages (some of which – if not corrected – make them unemployable):

    • Lack of ambition, interest in working, social skills and the ability to communicate
    • Irrelevant and poor education and training with limited reading and writing ability – sometimes verging on illiteracy, even among graduates!
    • Unwillingness to get out and search for work
    • Happy to exist on joseekers, housing benefit, child allowances, etc, despite being able to work (even though various benefits could still be available for some)

This post and probably the entire study only takes into account those who are officially unemployed. There are many jobs that used to be available to students and stay at home moms looking for a second income. These people have been hurt by immigration, but it doesn't show up on the official statistics. Seasonal farm work, cleaning, dishwashing, school dinners and various other jobs are still sought after by some Brits because of their lifestyle, but they're hard to come by these days. It's normal to see non-Brits doing these jobs all the time. This was my experience when I was a student and a mother. Even airport jobs are being over represented by foriegn nationals and this seems very foolish to me. I can't remember the last time I was served a coffee in an airport by a person without a non-British accent.

Unemployment is high because of mass immigration. Every week almost 5,000 immigrants settle here. They all want jobs or benefits and are a drain on our economy.

The comparison with China is apt. The Chinese are cheaper because in China there are millions of workers who have to work for low wages because there is a surplus of labour - which is exactly the same situation that the hundreds of thousands of immigrants swarming ashore here are creating.

I'm not after anything except justice for my countrymen. And your "alternative workers " means lower wages not justice.

It is nominally a Christian country. We don't advocate stoning people to death and sending gays to mental hospitals.

Nominally – as in so called, but not really?

As for the rest, the attitudes still exist. You've only to scan posts here to see that!

Quite right in what you say there. Our welfare system allows far too many free loaders to get benefits for doing nothing when they could be doing something worthwhile in society.

Substitute "lower" for the more-appropriate "appropriate" and I'll agree as I'm a believer in justice for everyone not just those who can manipulate the system...
