Default Henley by election

If Boris wins the London Mayor job, could we be facing a by election in Henley?

Last time the results were as follows:

General Election Results For Henley

At the General Election in Henley on 5th May 2005, 46537 votes were cast (approximately 68% of the total number of eligible voters) with the following result:

53.5% Boris Johnson (Conservative): 24894 votes (+7.4%).

26% David Turner (Liberal Democrat): 12101 votes (-1%).

14.7% Kaleem Saeed (Labour): 6862 votes (-6.4%).

3.3% Mark Stevenson (Green Party): 1518 votes (+0.7%).

2.5% Delphine Gray-Fisk (UK Independence Party): 1162 votes (-0.7%).

Have we got a candidate for the next GE who is ready to step in or, since the Chairman of Henley has been thrown out of the party for speaking at BNP meetings, is the local branch in abeyance?

If we were organised we should be getting ready for the eventuality that Henley will be the next battle ground. We need a strong local candidate - Oxfordshire based at least.

I don't known if Delphine is ready to go again, but if not we must be ready.

Maybe Albert will contest any by-election for another party or as an independent anti-EU candidate?

That would be very funny.

There is no reason why Boris can't keep both, as he almost certainly will.

That will be one by-election well worth watching if UKIP and the BNP decide to contest this with the candidates mentioned/hinted at!

Also in reply to Populist Lee; he is allowed to keep both but has promised to resign as an MP if elected Mayor. I cannot see him reneging on that promise.

Thanks for the clarification.
A By-election looks a dead certainty then.

If there is a by-election in Henley, then the Liberal Party will almost certainly be standing a candidate. One of our NEC members lives in the constituency and he started casting around for potential candidates several weeks ago:

Liberal Forum :: View topic - Possible by-election in Henley

He's looking for somebody really top-notch, preferably a well-known eurosceptical liberal. Given that the LibDems recently disgraced themselves over the referendum issue we think we are in with a good chance in this eurosceptical constituency. Therefore we hope we can attract a good slice of the LibDem support from the start, and in that case an outstanding candidate could perhaps make a real contest of it against the Tory candidate.

Want to rattle the big three with a surprise eurosceptical breakthrough in Henley? Vote Liberal!
