As a democrat, but a member of no party, but who is an English nationalist opposed to the EU, I would have thought it sensible for both the EDP and UKIP to throw their respective hats in the ring! Ultimately, all that voters are doing is electing a Member of Parliament to represent them! To my mind, it is by no means certain that Davis will be re-elected . . . voters can react unexpectedly when they feel their votes are being taken for granted!

You should have heard Dennis Macshane's disgraceful going on about the reasons why Irish voters voted against the Lisbon Treaty! According to him it was an anti-abortion campaign, dissatisfaction with the government, dee-da dee-da dee-da! Anything but rejection of the bl**dy treaty!! Similarly, pundits will go into endless theorising about what's at stake in the Haltemprice By-election. All I know is that all the other parties would look stupid if it became a straight contest between Davis and a BNP candidate and the BNP candidate was elected!!! Remember, this constituency abuts Hull . . . a port town.

Kelvin MacKenzie, erstwhile of The Sun, is indicating he'll stand if Labour don't.

Even as an Independent I would expect him to poll respectably.

Nothing is guaranteed in By-elections of this nature.
As someone reminds us elsewhere, George Lansbury did a similar thing in 1912 - - and lost.

Well, after the poor result in Henley, not standing in Haltemprice is starting to look like an even worse idea for UKIP; they could really have done with a good result somewhere.

The Greens are standing, and after their third place in Henley they will be looking for another strong result, giving them enough momentum to claim the 'fourth party' position from UKIP.

Why is UKIP not fielding a candidate? Not the position of the UKs "4th largest party" (how embarrassing that phrase may well become for them) should be taking, surely?

    You should get some sleep.

Why aren't the BNP trying to build on their success?

I thought they had, silly me. Yes I should get some sleep before I start imagining that the BNP beat Labour and UKIP in a by-election...woah, they did!
