Agnostic atheist only, admittedly, but never mind. I've never understood how anyone, be they atheist or theist, can claim to know as fact that God does/does not exist. Anyone here take such a position of certainty, and care to explain it?
Absolutely, it does not require much intellect. You are asking me to prove a negative, that is a logical fallacy.
I'm not asking for a proof, because it is fundamentally impossible in such circumstances. I was asking for justification, not proof, for a position of certainty, in particular when there can be no such proof for either side (I wouldn't accept it as proof if God himself came down to me and performed a few miracles - I could just be hallucinating, after all).
Hello there. Thanks for the invite. I love that description Tito: "...reason is the only absolute."
So, Akria, you would describe yourself as an agnostic? Because there is a real dichotomy here. Agnostics fall under the athiest umbrella as well. The fact is, since you do not believe that God exists you are not a theist, therefore, since you do not take such a positive claim on the existence of God, you are an atheist. I personally describe myself as an atheist, but deep down my real position is agnostic atheist. That is, I do not know whether God exists or not (agnosticism), but I believe that He does not (atheism). Atheism pertains to belief, agnosticism and gnosticism to knowledge. Thus, one cannot be an agnostic or a gnostic without being an atheist or a theist as well. So, I do not need to provide a proof that God does not exist (however, it can be done under some definitions), but I merely need not believe in Him, in the same sense I do not believe in unicorns even though I am agnostic towards their existence.
I am aware that I'm an atheist, and I'm aware of the gnostic/agnostic distinction. Try reading my post again. And if you are, as you say, an agnostic atheist then of course you have no need to provide proof, nor do you even have to provide justification to me. My question was directed at gnostic atheists.
BTW, I had the page scrolled down a bit and couldn't see all of Epicurus. For an odd moment I was wondering why you'd uploaded an image of Cthulhu.
Then accept my apologies, sorry. Do you want me to upload Cthulhu? I would be happy to oblige. We atheist probably appear like that to some fundies anyway...
I'm more agnostic than pure out and out atheist.
I love reality, seeing is believing and I have never seen any proof there is any god what so ever, religion at one time did help to modernize the world with giving the human race education, but now it's had it's time and now it is holding back the world, with science we have the real evidence nowadays and all that religious teaching goes out of the window as we know the truth, some may not except reality and hold on to their God, but I want to move on and see a more practical world.
