Default Glenrothes by-election

Now that the NuLab MP for Glenrothes, Fife has died, will UKIP be fielding any candidates?

This is a constituency that neighbours Gordon 'the gopher' Brown's own Kirkcaldy constituency. We should all make an effort to travel to Fife and help out with campaigning if they do.

Sadly we will get humiliated. SNP are on a roll and the Labour vote will wither and die. SNP were second last time. We did badly last time, although credit to Paul Smith in putting his head above the parapet in such a difficult seat, and will do worse this autumn.

2005 results:

John MacDougall Labour 19,395 51.9 -6.0
John Beare SNP 8,731 23.4 -0.6
Elizabeth Riches Liberal Democrat 4,728 12.7 +4.8
Belinda Don Conservative 2,651 7.1 -0.4
George Rodger Pensioners Party Scotland 716 1.9 +1.9
Morag Balfour Scottish Socialist Party 705 1.9 -0.8
Paul Smith UK Independence Party 440 1.2 +1.1

A difficult one! SNP are on a roll, should we disappoint those who have voted for us in the past and any new voters with UKIP leanings? Or do we save money by not putting up a candidate?

The cheap way is £500 deposit and one leaflet for posting. A small batch of a second leaflet for those who want to door knock and dish out leaflets in the street. £1200 total. We would probably keep our percentage, but the SNP and Labour are going to pour every penny they can into this. We can't match it. We had 440 votes last time, I would expect the big 2 to put that many individual activists into the seat over the election period, with up to 100 on any given day.

Why is UKIP so weak in Scotland? Have they thought about building up 2 or 3 powerbases in particular areas north of the border?

If UKIP do field a candidate, I would like to see supporters from all over Scotland and the North of England knocking doors and canvassing. I'll certainly be helping out in any way I can.

I also think it would be a good idea if Nigel Farage makes an appearance. There have been calls for Gordon 'bottler' Brown to be there.

Everyone is inherently a UKIP supporter, they just may not know it yet.

We should have fielded a candidate in Glasgow. With the Euro elections approaching it will help our prospective MEPs get some exposure in the media.

This is our opportunity to rock the Establishment and show the country that UKIP can be a serious alternative! Don't let the Lib Dems or BNP beat us into 7th place again.

Any money spent building up support anywhere is money well spent
Even if our vote barely improves getting more voters on board has to be a priority and word will spread.

I'm not sure how to reply helpfully to this other than that I am 100% certain that you know where Newcastle is and that you merely misread the post. That happens to all of us except of course those so arrogant they are unwilling to admit it.
