Default The 2007 General Election

We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to not hold a general election in 2007. More details

Submitted by Sid Cumberland – Deadline to sign up by: 12 January 2008 – Signatures: 4

I, sign up to the petition.

More details from petition creator

In this country we do not elect our Prime Minister. We vote for MPs, and they choose the Prime Minister. A general election might appear to give Gordon Brown a mandate - but it would also be an unwelcome step towards a presidential system.

Current signatories Sid Cumberland, the Petition Creator, joined by:

Stewart McKee
Martin J Hughes
Gordon "Bottler" Brown

Default A Revolution in Representation

Gordon Brown has (cack-handedly) given the british people the opportunity to establish direct representation as a permanant part of our political system.

If the petition he has made the focus of this opportunity (a 2007 election) Petition to: Hold a general election in 2007. gains enough popular support, it will establish the principal that never again will the british people have to ask for a referendum on anything -- the people can create their own and expect the government to take notice.

The current petition system is not perfect, but it is this is genuinely an opportunity to bring more power to the people.

If you haven't already, then please, please sign this petition, and get every one you know who is eligible to do the same - don't miss this opportunity for a peaceful revolution in our political system.

And if anyone knows how to contact the creators of open petitions that are now redundant (red arrows at olympics, and university fees interest calculation) to ask them to close them, please do so!
