Frankly one of two things must be true. Either David Noakes is a true visionary, a giant of British politics and has a greater understanding of the EU than anyone alive or he is stark raving bonkers.
What he asks us to believe is that the EU reform treaty will abolish our parliament. This IMHO is unmitigated garbage. Even our politicians are not so blind nor so stupid as to believe that such a move would not unleash the most furious backlash against the EU that has ever been seen. There is much to despise about the treaty but lets stick to fighting the facts not some absurd fantasy. |

I think DN is correct about the direction of things in general terms. The euroelite plan is indeed to remove the national parliaments - lots of people recognise that (eg NF, Lindsay Jenkins, etc.). However, the EU elite will be using its usual patient salami slicing approach - gradually expanding control through the Regions and the centre.
DN presents what is a highly plausible surmise about what is happening as certain fact - sadly this weakens his credibility. |

I understand where you're coming from, but it is better to educate people that not all "conspiracies" are untrue because they are labelled as such.
People who ridicule other people are normally not able to provide a coherent argument to refute a claim(though I agree this claim may have been too far) I agree that DavidN should have backed up his claim with some other type of proof, even if there were a lot of other items of information(maybe circumstancial eveidence) available to support his theory. You say "Joe and Joan public are just not ready for that level of understanding" - maybe not, but it's up to us to educate them - we shouldn't fear speaking our minds because of their inability to understand -ultimately that is their personal responsibility. I am shocked you say "Telling them that Merkel stopped the election (even if true) is a step far too far." ! Surely we are all after the truth ? We can't live in ignorant bliss can we ?!! You say "one weapon used hugely and very succesfully again the 'anti-eu' groups is that of self-parody and ridicule.". Even if you are squeaky clean, you will always be ridiculed if someone doesn't like what you stand for... Like with a bully, the only thing to do is to make a stand against the aggressor, stand your ground and fight your corner(with facts). The anti-EU brigade need to fight back hard - it isn't as if they don't have the ammunition to do so either ! People are more likely to respond for someone that fights for what he believes in than someone who compromises his beliefs to keep the peace. Anyway I do appreciate your valid point..... Quote:

If it was the EU that cancelled the British general election, then why did it allow us Poles to organise a snap election? The parliament's term ends 21/10/2011.
