Default Huge leads for Labour in two new opinion polls

Two new opinion polls published today give Labour a huge lead over the Conservative Party of pro-EU and anti-UKIP David Cameron (both polls were conducted after Gordon Brown gave his speech to this week's Labour Party conference):

1.

The Times

Populus Poll

Labour 41%
Conservatives 31%
Liberal Dims 19%

2.

The Daily Telegraph

YouGov

Labour 43%
Conservatives 32%
Liberal Dims 15%

If the voting patterns in the above two polls were repeated in a General Election, Labour would be returned with an increased majority (i.e. the Conservatives would actually lose some of the seats they hold nominally on the new constituency boundaries).

The poll results will increase pressure on Labour leader Gordon Brown to call a General Election now, rather than to wait. However, as reported elsewhere on the forum - Labour lost a council seat to the Conservatives in a local By-Election on Thursday at Sunderland (a Labour-held constituency). This might complicate the decision Gordon Brown has to take soon about an early General Election.
