Labour are on a 39% share of the national vote with the Cameron-led Conservatives 6% behind, a new YouGov poll for the Telegraph reveals - and if the voting figures were translated in an actual General Election result, Labour would win a landslide, the Telegraph states:

Former Conservative candidate Iain Dale wrote on his blog late last night (brief edited extracts) "The YouGov poll (in the Telegraph) puts Labour on 39 points, the Conservatives on 33 and the Liberal Democrats on 16. It means Labour has dropped just one point and the Tories and the Liberal Democrats stay on the same level as last month. The Telegraph poll asked who would make the best Prime Minister. Forty two per cent said Mr. Brown and only 20 per cent David Cameron. Liberal Democrat leader Sir Menzies Campbell impressed only six per cent. When asked who would run the economy better Labour polls 36 per cent to the Tories’ 28."

Might be a good thing. If Brown calls the election (possibly as early as Monday), the Conservatives might self-destruct. This can only help smaller parties, though I hope that Labour's UKIP machine will not benefit too much.

UKIP had the support of ex-Labour MP Kilroy at the last EU Election and the backing of Labour support Max Clifford (the PR man).

But UKIP also had the support at the last EU Election of Lord Pearson and several other Conservative (Tory) Peers and the backing of pro-Conservative businessman Paul Sykes who helped pay for many of the millions of glossy colour leaflets distributed by UKIP in the campaign for the last EU Election.

So, UKIP has support from people who are or were both Labour backers and Conservative supporters.

Yes, certainly the bulk are conservative (though I would never have guessed that from frequenting this forum), but it is the Labour party that are using UKIP strategically for their own benefit.

Not the London or 'East' Midlands of England Labour Parties - the swing from Labour to UKIP in the last EU Election and in the last London Assembly election (both held on the same day) was massive - over 16% in some Assembly constituencies.

UKIP cost Labour 2 seats in the 'East' Midlands constituency at the last EU Election. UKIP also reduced Labour's representation at the last EU Election in the south-east of England EU constituency.

If there is any advantage for Labour from UKIP taking votes from the Conservatives - it is an advantage caused by the europhile impostors in the Conservative Party stopping the Tory Party from becoming a proper pro-sovereignty party (its natural role).

In other words, if Labour have an advantage from UKIP contesting constituencies (and taking vital votes from the Conservatives) Labour has this advantage because the Conservatives have - by being pro-EU - lost anti-EU voters to UKIP.

The europhiles in the Conservative Party could be helping Labour.
