Default Creating institutions

If we are honest, we probably won’t see English independence for a very long time... or an English parliament….nor leave the EU…. if ever.

So if you view this as a quest where there is no end in sight, it could be easy to become disillusioned and think it’s a waste of time.

We must therefore find fulfilment in what we do now. The Labour and Conservative parties, for example, not only run party branches but social clubs. So if we get into a position where we can set up branches, we can’t just view them as a political institution, but as a social one as well. Places where people meet up, make friends and enjoy themselves. Yes, there would be time for politics such as running campaigns etc. but this should not be the sole pursuit.

Only if we can create a situation where people want to meet other party members locally, can we hope to be able to develop the party fully.

There is an old anarchist or libertarian socialist idea of creating the institutions of the future society within the shell of the old. It has struck me as always a good move.

That reminded me of Marx:

Quote:
No social order ever perishes before all the productive forces for which there is room in it have developed; and new, higher relations of production never appear before the material conditions of their existence have matured in the womb of the old society itself. Therefore mankind always sets itself only such tasks as it can solve; since, looking at the matter more closely, it will always be found that the task itself arises only when the material conditions of its solution already exist or are at least in the process of formation. -- K. Marx, Preface to A Contribution to the Critique of Political Economy
It is perhaps one of the most famous passages by Marx and certainly an idea he repeated in different contexts.

Ah Marx, say what you like about him he was indeed one of the greatest of modern thinkers and sometimes amazingly libertarian.
