THE GOOD FRIDAY agreement says and I quote that northern Ireland shall remain part of the United kingdom while the vast majority supports it.That was supported in a referendum in june 1998 with over 72 percent support.and it was under pinned with the principle of consent.Of the people of northern ireland so there for its up to the people of northen ireland if any futher changes Ie the land border with the republic happens and this can only come about in a referendum. So there for if Independence for england comes about it will only come about in a referendum of the people of England and there is not majority support for it.
I have had to repost it it got mixed up.Martin you asked a question about land borders you get an answer about Ireland you are totally lacking judgement and should read over your posts before responding.you are not making any case what so for independence and have had your case blowen out of the water. |

Members of the IRA held land that crossed over the border, and where able to transfer weapons and supporters across the border under the noses of the British Army. Once they where in Northern Ireland they could then easily get across to England/Scotland without problem. Although there was a free travel zone between Britain and the Republic in the troubles, the Customs officers did check traffic from Hollyhead to Dublin for example. Ea of dune |

Come on then Danny, please explain how you have blown our case for independence out of the water. Your provide no facts, documents, evidence or anything else. Simply because you say you have blown our case away it doesn't mean it is so!

I'm sure that the good majority of Unionists would want to allow Northern Ireland to merge with the Republic of Ireland if that's what the majority of the population wanted.

I think Northern Ireland is going to be an odd case in the future at any rate.
Does anybody know if there are plans for EU regions in Ireland for example? I would have thought the EU would want to split Ireland down based upon the old geographical boundies such as Ulster, Munster etc. and NI is only a section of Ulster? Ea of dune |

I think that is true but as you say it would be up to the population. |
