You have come up with a point totally irrelevant to the discussion! If you were so bothered about a land border, you would be encouraging the unification of Ireland.

Oh yes, I forgot the land border between NI and the ROI affected England, not.
To a degree it did, anyone that passes into Northern Ireland from the Republic can then enter England without any border checks. This isn't a problem 99% of the time, but it has been in the past.
Members of the IRA held land that crossed over the border, and where able to transfer weapons and supporters across the border under the noses of the British Army. Once they where in Northern Ireland they could then easily get across to England/Scotland without problem.
Although there was a free travel zone between Britain and the Republic in the troubles, the Customs officers did check traffic from Hollyhead to Dublin for example.

You keep shifting ground. You clearly oppose English independence because of the border issue, but you don't support Irish unification which would solve the border issue. You are just a hypocrite.

Come on then Danny, please explain how you have blown our case for independence out of the water. Your provide no facts, documents, evidence or anything else. Simply because you say you have blown our case away it doesn't mean it is so!

I'm sure that the good majority of Unionists would want to allow Northern Ireland to merge with the Republic of Ireland if that's what the majority of the population wanted.

I think Northern Ireland is going to be an odd case in the future at any rate.
Does anybody know if there are plans for EU regions in Ireland for example?
I would have thought the EU would want to split Ireland down based upon the old geographical boundies such as Ulster, Munster etc. and NI is only a section of Ulster?

There is no problem with having a land border with any other state (as long as that state is not hostile, of course). I cannot see that it is helpful for Unionists or anyone else to advance that argument.
