Yes, the EU tactics are to try to 'divide-and-rule' through 'regionalisation' (i.e. weakening and breaking up nations - especially those such as England/UK which are strongly eurosceptic).

Last week the Scottish pro-UK former Labour MP Mr. Brian Wilson criticised Labour over devolution. Mr. Wilson wrote that 'nationalist' majorities in the devolved legislatures would not mean that people would vote to break up the UK Union.

Here are a couple of quotes from Mr. Wilson's interesting article:

I am pleased Mr Wilson has spoken out, of course Tam Dayell the former father of the house warned of the dangers of devolution at the time and indeed during the first attempt to introduce it during the illfated Callaghan government.

I'll make it clear I don't support the EU regionalisation, but I support more power for both historic regions like Wessex and Northumbria and more the counties and this will actually be a good thing, increasing democracy and identity and may help as a stronger bulwark against the EU.

Yes, Mr. Dalyell was right to warn of the dangers of weakening the UK. Labour thought that by backing devolution they would be able to govern semi-permanently in the Scottish Parliament. How wrong they were.

And what you don't seem to understand Brittanist is that it was good thing for unionists because not only is it more democratic but it temporarily placates the independence movement. It would of increased the feelings if it had been stopped.
