What's wrong with a referendum on the issue anyway? It's hardly as though we are overwhelmed with them.
How... Convenient... that you cannopt find the source

That is a part of Devolution, not deunionization.

True. I can't say I've ever seen a poll on independence. However, it has been argued that an English Parliament would lead to the breakup of the UK.

EDIT: This is interesting:

**A majority of those describing themselves as English thought England should be independent (58.7%) whereas just 23.3% of those describing themselves as British thought so.

Inaccurate data.

The sample is already biased.

Why is it wasted? To the contrary, Richard (if that is your name :/), talking about your political ideals and morals is never a waste of time if you are in a party.

So, back on topic, what do you think will happen if a referendum is called?

I personally don't see any of the polls being right. Either it will be extremely close (like in Quebec) then the SNP might die off for a decade or two, or it might be in favour of independence by a tiny margin.

I think when people are actually presented with the choice the results will be different than in a poll.

Although I could be completely wrong and it could be a union landslide.

I'm more concerned with what happens if Scotland votes for independence.

What happens, how soon, who gets what, will there be border controls, will there still be anything in common (ie. foreign representation?) or not, will either party be required to bail the other out if it all goes pear shaped, will there be the possibility of re-entry into a Union in the future, what happens to England/Wales/NI?

I don't think it's fair to give Scotland a referendum without also giving one to England, Wales and NI.
