Default Brief extract

Brief extract from the Sunday Times article on the link given in the last posting to this thread: "No. 10 sources say the Prime Minister would rather see the entire Constitutional treaty collapse than allow individual member states to be left trailing in a two-speed europe."

It seems to contradict the fact that he rang Sarkozy to say he was pressing ahead with it.
Which way will it go?

Default EU Constitution Lisbon 'Treaty', Irish Republic, mini-'Treaties'

Everyone I talk to on this (and I share their view) think the EU will go ahead anyway (with the unwanted EU Constitution Lisbon 'Treaty'), regardless of the vote in the Irish Republic last week. If the EU abandon the EU Constitution Lisbon 'Treaty' it will only be because they have found another way of 'salami-slicing' the measures in the 'Treaty' to be brought in using existing mechanisms and procedures within the EU and by using EU legislation already in place.

There is also talk now in EU circles of a mini-'Treaty' to replace that rejected last week by the Irish people. If the EU thinks it can get the measures in the EU Constitution Lisbon 'Treaty' through by a couple of mini-'Treaties' with bland-sounding names they will try that instead.
