Default Politics

I hear political manouvering is already going a head.
Brown has been on the blower to Sarkozy to say we are going to ratify the treaty as planned.
I no doubt guess that the EU will allow all the countries but Ireland to ratify and go a head with it and a second group will appear which Ireland will sit within, followed by any other new arrials to the EU/Eurabia.
They will continue to sit in this grouping until they ratify the treaty and then join the core members.
Watch the EU make this out to be a victory for democracy whilst they plan something through the back door again.
Effectively about 2 million Irish voters who voted NO have managd to jam the cogs for the moment .

Elmar Brok MEP, in The German Times ( 6 june)...

"I'm still optimistic that the majority of the Irish people will ultimately vote yes.... If the third attempt fails now, I don't know whether a fourth one can be successful".

Now watch him change tack and enthuse about a second Irish referendum....!

Default gerrymandering

From the Beeb: BBC NEWS | Europe | Q&A: Irish treaty referendum

Quote:
But France, which takes over the EU presidency next month, argues that an Irish No should not block ratification of Lisbon.

"We'd have to find particular ad hoc mechanisms of co-operation with the Irish... and the process of ratification would have to continue," said France's Europe Minister Jean-Pierre Jouyet.

He spoke of finding a "legal arrangement" with Ireland at the end of the ratification process.
Right so basically Ireland will be put in the naughty corner until they do what the EU tells them, and the rest of us will get the ratified treaty rammed down our throats.

And here was me thinking this would be the end of the LT, should have known better.
Question is, what are we going to do about it. I'm not going to sit here waiting to be ruled by EU law.

Default Harriet Harman, Labour Party, referendum, EU Constitution Lisbon 'Treaty', UK, Irish

A first reaction from the UK Government (to the news that the people of the Irish Republic have (hopefully) rejected the EU Constitution Lisbon 'Treaty'):

Harriet Harman, Deputy Leader of the Labour Party, said on Sky Television News at 2.14 pm today (in reply to a question about a possible No vote in the Irish Republic referendum on the EU Constitution Lisbon 'Treaty'): "We support the 'Treaty' - the EU is terribly important for our economy." When asked if she thought that now the Irish people have had a referendum we should have one too here in the UK, Harman avoided answering the question - "We have protected UK interests (in our negotiations on the 'Treaty')." She added "What they do in Ireland is a matter for the Irish people."

A reporter on Sky Television News said just after 2 pm today of the Irish referendum on the EU Constitution Lisbon 'Treaty': "Ireland gets huge EU subsidies but still appears to have voted No."

It doesn't help having a pro-EU Constitution europhile (Cowan) as Prime Minister of the Irish Republic. When the EU tries to ignore the Irish No vote (if it is confirmed that the people of the Irish Republic have rightly rejected the EU Constitution Lisbon 'Treaty') the Irish people need a Prime Minister who will kick up a fuss at EU meetings in protest at attempts by the EU to ignore the decision of the people of his country.

Michael Portillo, the former Conservative MP and Defence Minister, said on last night's 'This Week' programme on BBC 1 Television that the EU will try to find another way of getting through the measures in the EU Constitution Lisbon 'Treaty' if there is a No vote in yesterday's Irish referendum.

if they still go ahead with the LT in the uk dont forget about mr Wheelers judicial review that could put the spanner in the works of the LT.

A wonderful result from Ireland! Good for them. By throwing this treaty out they've given us another chance to say how we are governed.
